Apple provide support for three years for each operating system, after which it will no longer receive security updates. Sequoia, Sonoma and Ventura currently receive security updates. Monterey is no longer supported and no longer receives security updates. By default, MacOS downloads and installs updates automatically. Check that automatic updates are enabled. MacOS support
