Ubuntu releases have a development codename and the version number indicates the year and month of delivery (e.g. 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish was released in April 2022).

Most Ubuntu installations are Long Term Service (LTS) and these are published every two years in April.

LTS versions provide security updates for 5 years without a subscription and a further 5 years if you subscribe to Ubuntu Pro.

The 2024 version (Noble Numbat) provides 12 years of support with a Pro subscription.
